Hi Trent
ReplyDeleteLike Greenfox I cant connect my Windows Vista PC to my Ipod to transfer files.
I have managed to make it work once transferring a couple of files but since then I cant connect at all.
All my shared option are open on my computer along with the sharing option on the ihearit
app. The IP address I have put in dozens of times is correct but it just doesn't connect. I shouldn't have to spend this long trying to transfer a file please help.
Another program called ASD lite uses the same system as yours but through the internet browser not by creating a folder and that does work every time for me. (Don't know if this helps at all)
From the files I did get working I really like the app, especially the waveform image which really sets it apart from other apps like this.
I do have a few suggestions though
One of the tracks I uploaded is an Abersold track which splits the piano and bass to different channels. At the moment the app only plays one channel so putting a mono/stereo option would solve the problem I think.
Choosing a segment of a song to repeat seems backwards and annoying. You should be able to specify A and Bs timings exactly like any other loop app. Clamping the A and B down which is the current option seems really imprecise and clunky. The zoom function is brilliant it enables that precision why cant I move the blue line and click A to set that as my start. Surely this is a better option than the current system.
Finally a play/pause option would be great instead of on the waveform because your likely to skip to another part of the wave and not from where it was paused.
As I said I love the app and only want to make it better please help me with options to get me connected.
Thanks
Hi X19,
ReplyDeleteCan you share more info regarding the error message? Is your Vista PC all up to date? Is it the same PC you had success earlier with, or a different one? Are you positive you are on the same wifi network with your PC and iPhone? iPhones can jump around to other remembered or unsecured wifi networks, depending on your settings.
I'm considering your suggestion of the browser based uploader. While Shared Folders allow drag and drop, a browser-based uploader means only one set of instructions instead of having to deal with the ins and outs of multiple OS's, each with their own many variants like upgrade status and individual user settings etc.
Also movable loop points are on the agenda.
For starting playback at the exact same point you left off, just touch the current position (blue line). If you aren't finding your touch to be accurate, just zoom in more. The iPhone / iPod screen is very sensitive.
Using touch on the waveform instead of shuttle controls allows many things that shuttle controls could never do. If you want to get a run-up by starting 0.5, 1 or even 3.7 seconds before where you left off, you can do that with one touch. Want to skip ahead 40 seconds to examine a similar spot in the next chorus? You can do that too. Once you get used to using the waveform image, the timeline and the blue cursor line as references, I think you'll agree it offers many more possibilities than shuttle controls.
Thanks,
Trent
Hi Trent,
ReplyDeleteI have sorted the transfering problem by restarting the laptop and changing some settings. I still think a browser option is the best as you said its easier for you and its alot simplier to setup and use for people who use the app on different OS's.
Thanks for listening to my suggestions. Glad to hear movable loop points are in the pipeline.
I guess im so used to using the waveform image in a certain way from years of using transcribe. Thanks for the advice I will spend more time with the app and get used to its differences.
Looking forward to further updates

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI am running OS X 10.6.2 and Iphone 3.1.2
When I try to connect I get the error message
'Coneection Failed....There was an error connecting to the server. Check the server name or ip address, and then try again...'
I use this mac and iphone with the application airshare which works with no problems.
As far as I am aware there are no problems with the router.
Can you advise me please?
thanks for your time.
Patrick
p.s. movable loop points would make ihearit the Killer app and I would recommend it to all of my Jazz musician colleagues who currently all use Transcribe on their notebooks!( I contacted the creator of Transcribe who says he has no plans to make an iphone version of his app)
cheers!
Trent,
ReplyDeleteCan't seem to connect to the server via an iPad using Safari. Any obvious comments or would you need much more info.
Thanks.
E
Hi Eric,
ReplyDeleteYou need to run the browser on the desktop/laptop computer that has the music on it, and leave iHearit open on the Upload screen. Detailed instructions are here:

Let me know if you have any other questions,
Trent
Hi Trent,
ReplyDeleteI really like your app! I am looking forward to the update with moveable touch and drag loop points. I am wondering if you will be able to save the loops you create with the update? I play to recorded backing tracks and if I could save a loop say of a chorus where I could rehearse that over and over again and whenever I want just by clicking on a saved chorus loop of that song, that would be incredible. Is that possible?
Thank you again for a great app!
Dave
Hi Dave - can you give me a call at the # above to discuss your idea? Or let me know when you are available to call you. Thanks,
ReplyDeleteTrent
Awesome app and very simple to use. would it be possible to load music directly from the ipod library into the app instead of a computer? If im on the go, and just listening to music in my ipod, it would b awesome to have the capability to just play the same song in the app without having to upload it from a computer.
ReplyDeleteWould this ever be possible?
Hi Cos, thanks for your feedback. iPod library import will be the next thing that gets added. We just finished v1.4 (touch and drag movable loop points, and a bug fix) and have submitted it to Apple for approval. I think we'll have iPod library import in about a month.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Trent
Great App! Does IHearit use Dirac technology for dynamic Time and Pitch stretching?
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot
Mauro
Hi Mauro,
ReplyDeleteNot at this time but it is something I'm investigating. Actually the DSP coding is done by the same individual, but it is a version that can work on the older iPhones as well.
Thanks,
Trent
Hi Trent, the quality of the sound when slowed down seems better than other similar products where the sound turns out to be choppy. I use it for old Robert Johnson recordings. One problem I have is the voice seems predominant in the current settings, am I correct in saying that the equalizer settings of the iPod app(on the iPhone) don't apply? Would it be possible to have an equalizer to balance out the sound, in future updates?
ReplyDeleteThanks,
-Eric
Hi Eric,
ReplyDeleteYou are right, it doesn't apply at this time, but sometime in the future there will be an update that allows eq settings to be used. As a temporary workaround you could adjust the eq in an audio editing app on your mac or pc and save it as an mp3 to bring into iHearit. You may find all the Robert Johnson songs could benefit from the same type of tweaking.
Best regards,
Trent
Hi Trent,
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you can make your App interface with an foot pedal. I use one with my desktop app and think it would be awesome to have something that allowed hands-free start, rewind, pause functions. Any ideas?
Hi Duane,
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting idea. I just googled and found such a device made by the company Airturn. I'll add it in my list of future investigation to-do's.
